Graduation Gifts

Congratulations to the Graduate!

Congratulations to the Graduate!

QUESTION: What meaningful gifts could we give our children when they graduate from high school or college?

ANSWER: Ask yourself, what are my children’s needs?  At their current state of development (physical, emotional, intellectual) what items should be on their wish lists?

— journal, stationary, stamps and a really good pen

— coffee mug customized with a family photo

— movie rental or coffee shop gift card

— luggage

— six months of cookie of the month (check internet)

— personalized frame for their diploma

— coupons good for first couple of college loan payments

— college ring or charm

— pre-paid gas card

— hope chest (guys can start collecting tools)

— montage of childhood photos/memories on CD or DVD

— recipe book with favorite recipes from home

— tee shirt quilt (see http://www.201thingstodo.comBONUS STUFF)

The idea is to choose gifts that express affection and encourage resourcefulness. Look for ways to celebrates the uniqueness of the child. If at all possible, give a gift that provides an ongoing experience. This is especially important in a long-distance relationship, which may happen because you raised them right!  They should leave the nest.
